Pathologies
These are the most common pathologies treated in our traumatology consultation:
Traumatic pathologies
Traumatic pathologies cover a range of conditions that result from physical injuries or accidents. These can include bone fractures, joint dislocations and severe bruises. In a traumatology consultation, accurate diagnosis and treatment planning are crucial to ensure optimal recovery. Personalized rehabilitation and, in some cases, surgery may be necessary to restore functionality and minimize pain in the long term.
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is one of the most common pathologies treated in traumatology, characterized by the wear and tear of the cartilage that protects the joints, leading to pain, stiffness and decreased movement. The therapeutic approach may include lifestyle modifications, medication to relieve pain and inflammation, and in advanced cases, surgical interventions such as arthroplasty to replace damaged joints and restore function.
Tendon pathologies
Tendon pathologies involve tendons, which are structures that connect muscle to bone. Common examples include tendonitis and tendon tears, which can be caused by repetitive overload or aging. Treatment focuses on reducing pain and inflammation, usually through physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and sometimes surgical procedures to repair severely damaged tendons.
Common Treatments
Shoulder instability
Shoulder instability occurs when the components of the shoulder joint do not hold the arm bone firmly within its socket. This can be the result of sports injuries, trauma, or congenital weakness. Treatment can range from strengthening and stabilization programs led by physical therapists to surgical procedures to correct structural defects and secure the joint, depending on the severity and frequency of the dislocations.
[/dropdown] [dropdown]Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive technique used in traumatology to diagnose and treat problems within a joint. The procedure involves making small incisions through which a tiny camera is introduced, allowing the traumatologist to view and operate on the affected area without the need for open surgery. This significantly reduces recovery time and postoperative complications, being especially useful for knee, shoulder, and hip problems.
Open surgery
Open surgery remains a fundamental pillar in the treatment of severe orthopedic injuries, such as complex fractures or joint reconstructions. This type of surgery allows doctors direct and complete access to the affected area, facilitating detailed repairs and the placement of implants necessary to restore the function of the bone and surrounding tissues. Although it requires a longer recovery time, open surgery is crucial for cases that cannot be effectively addressed by less invasive techniques.
Prosthetics
The implantation of prostheses is a common treatment in traumatology for patients with advanced osteoarthritis or severe joint damage, who have not responded to other less invasive treatments. Prosthetics can partially or fully replace damaged joints, such as the hip, knee, or shoulder, significantly improving the patient’s quality of life by reducing pain and restoring mobility.
Growth Factors (PRP)
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is a regenerative therapy that uses the patient’s own growth factors to accelerate the healing of soft tissues and joints. This method is frequently used to treat sports injuries such as muscle tears or tendinopathies, where PRP is injected directly into the injured area to stimulate and optimize the body’s natural repair process.
