Dermapen is an electric pen used to apply a technique known as micro-needling and allows us to treat skin conditions such as spots, scars, stretch marks, acne, and superficial wrinkles. This technique is based on making 3 mm micro-incisions on the skin to destroy damaged tissue in a controlled manner. After a Dermapen session, a repair process is triggered during which collagen, elastin and new tissue with a healthy structure are produced. The result is smoother, whiter and literally new skin.
The basic Dermapen treatment is combined with a dermocosmetic treatment rich in hyaluronic acid, vitamins and organic silicon. The products used are exclusively for professional use and have concentrations and effects superior to cosmetics sold to the public. The creams are applied before and after the treatment. Before, to moisturize and nourish the skin. Then, to repair and mask the redness caused by micro-punctures.
Example of a facial micro-needling session for the correction of dark circles and superficial wrinkles
Facial rejuvenation with Dermapen
Micro-needling with Dermapen, combined with the appropriate dermocosmetic treatment, has a great capacity to smooth and depigment (whiten) the skin of the face. The treatments in which this technique stands out are:
- Treatment of scars
- Treatment of acne, as well as acne scars in adults.
- Depigmentation of spots and marks, from birth, from aging or from the sun.
- Correction of superficial wrinkles: expression wrinkles, crow’s feet, perioral wrinkles (smoker’s lips)
The parts of the face that can be treated are:
- Forehead, cheekbones, cheeks and chin
- Contour of the mouth. Perioral wrinkles, also known as bar codes, or smoker’s lips.
- Dark circles, bags and crow’s feet
The number of sessions and the duration of the treatment vary from one treatment to another. For wrinkle correction and luminosity, one session every 3 months is enough. More complex cases (scars, spots, depigmentation and acne) are usually resolved in 3-4 sessions (one every 15-20 days) plus 1 booster session after six months.
Treatment of body stretch marks with Dermapen
Stretch marks are caused by sudden changes in the skin: pregnancy, sudden weight changes, or intense physical activities. Dermapen can treat both red (early) and white stretch marks (those that have not been treated for a long time). Areas of the entire body can be treated, the most common being: belly, hips, buttocks, legs and thighs, arms, breasts and back.
Stretch marks are the result of damaged skin that has not been able to regenerate its structure correctly. When we apply micro-punctures on stretch marks, we destroy this defective structure and trigger a regeneration process that, in addition to generating new skin, rich in collagen and elastin, recovers the vascular structure that lies in the deeper layers. With this process, the treated skin has the opportunity to be reborn with its original properties.
Most cases of stretch marks are usually resolved with between 3 and 6 sessions, at a rate of one session every 2-3 weeks.
Whitening of armpits, groin and hands with Dermapen
Hair removal, shaving, applying deodorant, creams, or simply working with our hands are habits that are deeply rooted in our daily lives and cause mechanical and chemical damage to our skin without us even realizing it. Over time, these damages accumulate in the form of dead cells and make the skin look worn, rough and blackened. These effects can be uncomfortable to show in situations such as the beach or the pool, or in intimate relationships.
Micro-punctures with Dermapen 4, combined with the appropriate dermocosmetic treatment, have the capacity to destroy the accumulated dead tissue and depigment the skin in 2 sessions (one session every 2 weeks).
Hair Dermapen and mesotherapy
The skin on our scalp is made up of hair follicles, roots inserted into the skin from which 1 to 4 hairs sprout. When we are exposed to factors such as aging, stress, poor diet or lack of sleep, our hair follicles weaken, produce fewer hairs per follicle, grow more slowly and of poorer quality (thinner and weaker). In this state, the follicles lose their ability to regenerate all the hair that falls out and the amount of hair on the scalp begins to gradually decrease.
Dermapen, combined with a hair mesotherapy treatment, can be applied in the early stages of hair loss to stop it and begin to recover weakened follicles that have not completely closed. After a couple of sessions, weakened follicles can again produce 3-4 hairs per follicle and the hairs grow thicker and more lustrous. In general, this treatment improves the density and texture of the hair. Most hair treatments with Dermapen last 4 sessions (1 session per week).
Dermapen, however, is not able to recover areas of the scalp that are completely depopulated. When the hair follicles in an area have completely closed, the only possible solution to repopulate is to undergo a hair graft, normally combined with several PRP sessions.
Dermapen results: before and after
Is micro-needling treatment painful?
No. Micro-needling or micro-puncture treatment is performed under local anesthetic cream. In addition, Dermapen is adjustable in intensity, which allows us to adjust its intensity to the pain threshold of each patient. In this way, we make the treatment as painless as possible without compromising the quality of the results.
What improvements does Dermapen 4 have compared to its predecessors?
Before Dermapen, micro-punctures were applied with manual rollers (derma-roll) or needle stamps (derma-stamp). These techniques, in addition to being less precise, were slower and more painful.
Dermapen was launched in 2011 and improved the micro-needling treatment by introducing a rotating head. This head adds speed and maneuverability to the treatment. In this way, the specialist is able to achieve a more uniform result in shorter sessions, and the patient reduces their time of exposure to pain.
Every few years Dermapen is reinvented to further improve the treatment with micro-needling. At Clínica Magnasalud we have the 4th generation of Dermapen, launched in 2018, which is capable of making up to 1920 holes per second, 48% more than its predecessor Dermapen 3, launched in 2014.
