When to get an HPV test

In general, it’s a good idea to get tested for HPV routinely, especially if you’ve had unprotected sex in the past 2 years. According to the WHO, 90% of human papillomavirus infections are asymptomatic and disappear within 2 years. In the other 10% of cases, symptoms may appear, such as:

  • Warts or rough bumps on the vagina, penis, anus, or throat; which can cause itching or bleeding.
  • Lesions in the cervix, which if left untreated can lead to uterine cancer.

How the test is done

Make an appointment, come to our clinic and we will take samples of vaginal or urethral discharge in a few minutes. We will then send the samples to our laboratory and we will have the results ready in 10-15 business days. Finally, we will send you the results by WhatsApp or email with the utmost confidentiality.

Results report

The results report consists of a document, which we will give you in paper or digital format, which basically says whether the presence of HPV has been detected in your sample.

Price

The Human Papillomavirus test costs €90.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I test positive for HPV?

It is advisable to make an appointment with your general practitioner or gynecologist so that they can examine you and do more tests. This way, you can detect and treat possible lesions in your genitals and prevent the appearance of complications that lead to cancer.

Is the test painful?

No. The sample is taken by rubbing a cotton swab to soak it with mucus from the vagina, urethra, throat or anus.

Do I have to take the HPV test if I am vaccinated?

It is advisable, since there are more than 40 variants of the human papillomavirus, and some vaccines may not protect against all of them.
